The Central Library is looking for a volunteer to assist with Preschool STEAM! This event is for Preschoolers 3-5 years old to join us to explore themes in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. Culture Fest is a popular annual celebration of art and culture, showcasing a variety of entertainment and activities representing the cultural diversity of western Colorado.

The event is FREE to all!

Culture Fest will be on Saturday, November 8th  from 11am - 3:00pm at the Central Library.

Volunteers will help by greeting attendees at the door, providing directions to performances, answering questions about the event, assisting staff and country representatives as needed and helping with clean up after the event.

Trees with gift tags featuring recipients’ wishes are displayed at participating Mesa County Libraries locations, where community members select tags and donate gifts. We are seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Community Outreach Volunteers.

In this role, you will help build relationships within the community, promote our organization’s mission, and engage with diverse groups to make a meaningful impact.

The purpose of this position is to support the efforts of the Friends of Mesa County Library by taking used and donated materials and redistributing them throughout the community into various locations in need

Responsibilities, Duties, Functions, Tasks:

Make phone calls to local nursing homes, schools, hospitals, and other organizations from the call list to assess their availability and need for donations. To replenish stock, go to book drop location (1425 N 5th Street) and pick up prepared boxes with materials to replenish Deliver materials to locations requesting donations Communicate as needed with Book Sorting Volunteers Report hours to Volunteer Coordinator using Galaxy (online portal) or log sheet by the 8th of each mon


Qualifications (minimum experience, skills, education, knowledge):

·         Patience, courteousness, calm demeanor, friendliness, willingness to help others learn, and enthusiastic attitude. 

·         Reliability and dependability to attend assigned shifts and inform staff of inability to attend shifts. 

·          Passion for community engagement and a commitment to our mission.

·         Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Volunteer: Magazine Exchange Sorter

Position Purpose: The purpose of this position is to organize and weed the Magazine Exchange, where patrons can donate and pick up free magazines. The main goal of the Exchange is to provide an unbiased selection of current magazines for patrons.

Supervisor: Public Services Coordinator

Responsibilities, Duties, Functions, Tasks (what must be completed to achieve the goals):

Keep magazines on the shelf, keeping the floor clear. Weed older magazines when the shelf becomes too full. Recycle non-magazine materials such as pamphlets, brochures, catalogs, promotional materials, ripped/dirty magazines, etc. Organize magazines in a straight fashion according to the general topic and/or title. Maintain a variety of topics, to avoid an overabundance of a title/category Refer patrons to appropriate library staff for assistance Keep cart from blocking aisles and creating walking hazards for patrons Report hours to Volunteer Coordinator using Galaxy (online portal) or log sheet by the 10th of each month

Qualifications (minimum experience, skills, education, knowledge):

Good organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to arrange items in numerical and alphabetical order

Requirements:

Must be at least 14-years-old Interview with Volunteer Coordinator, review of handbook, signed waivers Train with Public Services staff before first shift Physical ability to push, bend, stretch, reach, lift and read magazine spines

Time Commitment:

Minimum of 30 minute shifts, once a week
